On 30 March in Lithuania Coaches' trade union was established. The inaugural meeting was attended by about 40 different sports coaches, also Lithuanian service workers trade union (LPSDPS) chairman Aleksandras Posochovas and lawyer Jolanta Cinaitienė participated.

Kastytis Pavilonis was elected chairman of the new organization.


According to K. Pavilonis, trade union members could be Olympic and non-olympic sports coaches and athletes, workers employed in stadiums and sports facilities servicing sector, sports trainers and teachers.

Walking coach K. Pavilonis says that there are hundreds of reasons why the Coaches’ trade union was needed. "Payroll funds are weak, therefore some doubts occur by distributing working hours. Overall, all the financial distribution does not have a high transparency. Not always formation of the national team was transparent. Salaries usually paid by local administration; other budget money – for preparations to compete, etc. Sports Department allocates money to Sports Federations. There is the money distributed according to its discretion, in regard to loyalty, etc.”

The new trade union, when will acquire certain weight will also try to influence the reform of children's non-formal education system, will represent school sports in the municipalities.

In an inaugural LTPS meeting some of the famous sports specialists were attended: marathon runner Živile Balčiūnaitė coach Romas Sausaitis, Lithuanian wrestling team coach Ruslanas Vartanovas, pentathlete team coach Jurijus Moskvičiovas and others.
