Together with Minister will seek higher wages for cultural workers

The meeting was organized by the initiative of the minister. It was dedicated to the wage issues of cultural workers. It was attended by the vice-minister Deividas Staponkus, advisor to the minister Rolandas Kvietkauskas. Trade unions were represented by the United trade union and Theater and entertainment institutions workers trade union federation.

A. Gelunas expressed hope that trade unions will help the Ministry to achieve raise of cultural workers wages next year by 5-10 percent. He talked about it already publicly. It was decided to organize mutual working group, which will work on workers wages issues and solve the social guarantees problems of authors. Also they will prepare for collective bargaining. This was initiated by the United trade union.

A. Posochovas expressed concern on insufficient competence of directors of cultural institutions. Talking about the wages he suggested to return for the long-term wages increase programme. Already in April 2008 the Government decree was made on increase of wages for libraries and museum employees during 2009-2011. Then was decided that libraries and museum specialists should receive 30 percent higher wages and in 2010 by another 15 percent. But a year ago this decision was amended and implementation was postponed till the end 2013 but without concrete percentage. In the nearly future trade union representatives should seek for common position and formulate common goals and priorities. After it mutual work group of ministry’s specialist, cultural institutions associations and workers representatives will start the work.
