According to the Drivers' trade union chairman Ramunas Narbutas, employers do not comply with certain provisions of the law guarantees related to workers on the road, and using some government concessions granted they spare money the expense of drivers, writes portal lprofsajungos.lt

Law on the Guarantees for Posted Workers should protect long-distance drivers on duty. Unfortunately, employers comply with not all rules of this law. One of them states that the employee on the road shall be subject to the state in whose territory the worker is sent to work temporarily, regulatory law, including also collective bargaining industry agreements shall apply: for work and leisure, the minimum annual paid leave, the timing of minimum wage, including payments for overtime work.
Thus, for an employee seconded to work in any EU country applies that country's minimum wage, if it is not lower than Lithuanian minimum wage.
However, the legislative provision does not work, therefore, according to the drivers union chairman Ramunas Narbutas, Lithuanian drivers work for 840 litas after taxes, as the daily allowance is for to compensate meal costs. It turns out that neither this, nor accommodation expenses to them are paid.
Since the government has allowed up to 50 percent to reduce the daily per diem amount, so drivers who want to get the job, have to agree with the employer’s conditions. Orally they get a promise to pay for mileage. "After returning from the trip, part of the money - at least 1040 +1 Litas (before tax) per month, but not less than 6.31 +1 Litas per hour is shown as salary and the remainder is paid as per diem, that is not taxed and paid to the state" - said Mr. Narbutas.
